One 36-page, anecdotal document comprised of notes taken by Jesse Walker during conversations over coffee he had with Fred B. Kniffen from 1975 to 1993. Fred Kniffen was a Boyd professor at Louisiana State University who, along with Richard J. Russell, is credited with founding the LSU geography and anthropology program. This collection of notes is a multifaceted look at the personal life and early years of Kniffen. He reflects on his attraction to geology and anthropology as a youth, his family and early childhood, his college years, his time spent in Alaska, and the people he met. He makes frequent mention of fellow collegues Richard J. Russell, Henry V. Howe, Carl Sauer, and Alfred L. Kroeber. The notes are arranged in chronological order according to the dates when Walker met with Kniffen.

Fred B. Kniffen, professor of geography and anthropology, retired from Louisiana State University in 1970, after a career that spanned 41 years.
